Creating Powerful Relationships

  • Updated

One of the most helpful features in Hudu is the ability to create powerful relationships between assets. You have the ability to map out your documentation and create an actionable breadcrumb so navigating large amounts of documentation is simple.

There are two primary ways of linking information in Hudu:

  • Using the Related Items tab.
  • Using Asset Links

Related Items Tab

The Related Items tab is the first and simplest way of relating between entities, and can be found on the right hand side-bar after clicking into an asset. It supports all entities outside of companies, whether it be an Article, Asset, Process, or Password inside or outside the company.

How to use it

In order to get started, you need to have two existing entities. Once these are created, simply go to the Related Items tab on the right-hand sidebar inside an asset and click "+ New". Search for the entity you want to relate to, and then click Add Relation to create the relation. When a relation is created, we will also create an inverse relation.

When to use it

Use the Related Items Tab for relations when:

  1. You want to link to other entities, such as Articles, Passwords, Processes, etc.
  2. You want inverse relations created between entities.
  3. Your related items require extended descriptions to make sense of why they are related.
  4. You don't want to have to create a field specifically for related items or don't have the required permission rights in order to create a new field.

Asset Links

The Asset Links is usually the best option for simply relating company assets between each other.

How to use it

In order to get started, you need to add a new field by going to Admin >> Assets and click into one of the specific assets that you would like to link, by clicking View on the far right (you can also click the asset title to access).

Add a new field called "Asset Link". Choose where it should pull from, then click save and return.

In order to merge the related assets together, you will need to add them while adding or editing the asset. To do so, click into the specific asset that you populated the new field for. At the top right, click "+ New" and navigate down to the Asset Link category you populated, and choose the specific asset from the dropdown that you would like to relate.

When to use it

Use the Asset Tags for relations when:

  1. You are just linking to a specific Asset type. For example, locations or sites.
  2. You want to link to potentially multiple assets together.
  3. You want to link to assets in the company and outside of the company.
